LASKARINA BOUBOULINA (1771 - 1825)

A Greek Naval Commander, Heroine of the Greek Independence War in 1821 her contributions were so great that she was granted, post mortem, the honorary rank of Admiral of the Russian Navy and later Rear Admiral of the Greek Navy. She organized her own armed troops, bought arms, ammunition and food, at her own expense, for the sake of the Freedom of the Greek Nation.
